Battery Recycling
One of the many items of misinformation regarding EV's has been the ongoing trope about 'So what happens to the batteries when they die?'. First, EV batteries are proving to be much longer lived than was supposed early on. Tesla batteries regularly pass hundreds of thousands of miles while retaining large amounts of capacity. And this is for batteries that were basically designed in the early 2010's. Newer designed batteries and formulations are only going to be more durable.
However, when the day comes that a battery has reached the end of it's life (or is in a car that was in a crash and totaled), the answer is simple - most of it can be recycled and harvested for new batteries. Here is a simple infographic that explains the process. Enjoy!
